I think the Sidereal references are trite, overused and frankly boring, a setting should be able to stand on it's own merits instead of as a reference to the Sidereals, and indeed the Akashics are in fact older than the Sidereal Exalted as a group, since they were written around 1998, as opposed to the Sidereals written in 2001 if I remember correctly. Like, I've played the Akashic Brotherhood since First Edition, and the Sidereal references are a general thing for Mages, personally not one that I care one whit for when I make a character, though certainly an element that can be introduced if the QM desires it. This basically means that even before active magic use comes into the picture, you can utterly dismantle all but the most dangerous of foes, and with magic, you can kill your way through almost anything.
